Bilka and føtex, part of Salling Group, Denmark's largest retailer, sell catering from the deli, bakery and butcher in their stores. Both shops run on FoodShop, built by Sprinting Retail.
Bilka is a chain of 18 hypermarkets and føtex a chain of 100 supermarkets, both part of Salling Group. Their stores produce catering in their own butcher, bakery and speciality food sections, for private parties and company events alike.
Before FoodShop, customers in most cases had to go into a store to order. The orders were all on paper, and the kitchens sorted them by delivery date in physical pocket file folders. The problems were the ones every grocery chain recognises:
The first release had to be live in 12 weeks, in time to sell for St. Martin's Eve.
Bilka and føtex launched on time, then grew the shop into what they call "much more than a web shop": one platform that runs ordering, payment, preparation and pickup, with each brand on its own domain and in its own look.
One team manages the product catalog across all brands. Products, images, descriptions, and pricing are configured centrally, with per-brand and per-store overrides where needed.
Capacity rules prevent over-ordering. Pickup-date rules control seasonal availability. Pickup-time rules manage collection windows. Price rules handle discounts and vouchers. All without code.
Customers order via responsive web and native mobile apps (iOS and Android). All channels share the same backend, ensuring consistent availability and pricing.
Each store receives a daily production plan based on incoming orders. No manual aggregation, no spreadsheets — orders flow directly into what the deli, bakery, and butcher need to prepare.

A third Salling Group food concept, Smag Salling, runs on the same platform, with its own brand, catalogue and checkout.

Real rules, live today on foetexudafhuset.dk:
"Christmas Menu" has a minimum order of 6 servings. Each store group has a daily maximum to prevent production overload.
"Christmas Menu" is only available from November 1st to December 17th — Christmas season.
"Order at least 4 days before pickup" gives the store time to source ingredients and schedule production.
"Porchetta is currently not available at Store 7" — per-store product control.
Party Buffet base price £15 per cover, with add-on pricing: bread (+£1), starter (+£4), dessert (+£1 or +£4).
Promotional codes such as 15% off a season's menus are handled in the same checkout.
Our new food e-commerce solution has become a key asset for us. This project is an example of very successful digital transformation.
